Threshold Group

 

Threshold Group is George's core enterprise today. With offices in Gig Harbor, Washington and Portland, Oregon, George F. Russell, Jr. and his late wife Jane T. Russell created Threshold Group in 1999 when they sold Frank Russell Company (now Russell Investments) to Northwestern Mutual. Today, Threshold advises $1.5 billion in client assets and provides investment strategy, estate planning, and integrated advisory services.

 

The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) is a Seattle-based think tank that studies Asia and Russia—with the U.S. national interest in mind. George chaired NBR from 1993 to 2009, working closely with co-founder Rich Ellings.

 


The Russell Family Foundation (TRFF)

 

The Russell Family Foundation (TRFF) is the focal point for George's philanthropic activities. He and Jane created TRFF with part of the sale proceeds of Frank Russell Company, providing a way for their extended family to make a quiet, positive impact in the community.

 


Russell Investments

 

George is Chairman Emeritus of the firm his grandfather founded in Tacoma, Washington, in 1936. He also serves in the same role at Russell 20-20.

 


Nuclear Fuel Cycle Technologies (NFCT)

 

Nuclear Fuel Cycle Technologies (NFCT) is a company that George founded in order to develop workable technology for neutralizing the health hazards posed by nuclear waste. Based in North Carolina, NFCT's work has the potential to revolutionize our ability to produce abundant energy that is both cheap and clean. George was inspired by the films of Basil Grigoriev to found NFCT.

 


EastWest Institute (EWI)

 

EastWest Institute (EWI) is the life's work of George's esteemed colleague John Mroz. EWI describes itself as "a global think-and-do tank that devises innovative solutions to pressing security concerns and mobilizes networks of individuals, institutions and nations to implement these solutions."

 


National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR)

 

The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) is a Seattle-based think tank that studies Asia and Russia—with the U.S. national interest in mind. George has chaired NBR since 1993, working closely with co-founder Rich Ellings.

 


Pacific Health Summit

 

The Pacific Health Summit works to connect science, industry, and policy for a healthier world. After Jane's death, George wanted to focus more attention on disease prevention. He worked closely with Bill Gates, Sr. to help the Summit bring together top decision-makers in science, policy, industry, medicine, and public health every year in June.

 


The Business Humanitarian Forum (BHF)

 

George serves as Honorary Co-chair, along with John Whitehead, of this Geneva-based organization. BHF promotes private sector cooperation with humanitarian organizations to solve complex problems in underdeveloped countries.

 


One Nation

 

One Nation is an organization that George founded after 9/11, with the goal of correcting misperceptions about Islam and reducing tension between Americans of different faiths.

 


A Child's Right

 

A Child's Right is an organization dedicated to bringing clean drinking water to children. George enthusiastically supports its founder, Eric Stowe, because he is a humanitarian and entrepreneur who installs water purification systems of his own design in urban centers where children are vulnerable to water-borne illnesses.

 


Museum of Glass

 

George serves as Chairman Emiritus of the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. The Museum sits at the intersection of two of his longtime interests: the work of Dale Chihuly and the Pilchuck Glass School and the renovation of downtown Tacoma and its waterfront.

 


Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

 

George is an Honorary Trustee of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the world's largest non-profit oceanographic institution.
